M.I.A.

I know I've been MIA for a little bit; I've been on the job hunt like a mad-woman! Hopefully I'll have some good news soon. :)

I'm looking forward to a much needed reunion with my (mostly) Southern CA SBeezies for what's ensured to be a shenanigan filled day tomorrow!

And an appropriate "Little Things" to appreciate on a day like today (and hopefully the rest of Mems Day Weekend!)....

Ono Sushi

Ono? Oh yes.

Ono Sushi, one of San Diego's premier Japanese eateries, wowed me Tuesday night with their service (some of the friendliest staff I've encountered), soup (on the house!), and most importantly, their sushi. Their hand rolls are nothing short of artwork (just take a peek at the Munchi roll to know what I mean). Emily, my good friend and sushi fiend says it is her favorite spot in all of San Diego. Although I'm not the biggest raw fish fanatic, I do love a basic and tasty shrimp tempura, avocado, and cream cheese roll. And boy, did they know how to do it right. Nice and compact (no avocado rolling out of the sides), and perfectly bite sized. That, paired with a little low-sodium soy sauce and I was in sushi heaven.

See what I mean? You could put this in a museum!

The best part about Ono are their Daily Specials and Tuesday evening's was no exception. Half-price select specialty rolls every Tuesday night, including the fancy Triple Fantasy Roll (Spicy Tuna Outside, Tempura Shrimp & Crab Inside), and the popular Crunchy Roll (Tempura Conch, Crab, Sweet Sauce & Pepper Flakes), as well as a 12-7 happy hour every Saturday and Sunday, are reason enough to make this Hillcrest eatery a regular haunt.

The only question that remains is why we opted out of dessert. Tempura Fried Bananas, anyone?

The Little Things

I guess I have been feeling the need for some positive inspiration lately because I keep finding myself (perhaps subconsciously?) seeking out happy mantras. This morning I was visiting You Are My Fave, and Melanie posted a link to a wonder of a site. This tumblr blog, little things, is a reminder to appreciate those teeny moments in life when you get lemonade instead of lemons. Enjoy!

Love Life

As Mama and I were sauntering down the drizzly streets of Little Italy yesterday, with our bellies full from an amazing brunch at Indigo Grill (pure heaven), we stepped into Masquerade. A boutique filled with items that some would adore, I found myself mainly drawn to their collection of fun books. One of the said books, Love Life, piqued my interest with its clever title and bright, simple pages inside. The book is filled with quotes about loving different aspects of your life- from loving your work to loving yourself. It is a great coffee table read and a wonderful one to glance at when needing some inspiration.

Quote from back cover: "I have found that if you love life, life will love you right back."- Arthur Rubenstein

On loving your friends

Here are a few of my favorites:

Love Helping Others: "A lot of dreams don't come true in life. If you have the chance to make somebody else's dream come true, you should." -Jameer Nelson

Love Taking Chances: "I have enjoyed life a lot more by saying yes than saying no." -Richard Branson

Love Simple Pleasures: "I have never been a millionaire. But I have enjoyed a great meal, a crackling fire, a glorious sunset, a walk with a friend, a hug from a child, a cup of soup, a kiss behind the ear. There are plenty of life's tiny delights for all of us." -Jack Anthony

Here's to the start of a wonderful week!

Oh, Mexico...

James Taylor says it best:
"Oh, Mexico, it sounds so simple, I just got to go.
The sun's so hot I forgot to go home, guess I'll have to go now."

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, I have to pay homage to the country that has brought so many wonderful things to the good old US of A. The bright russet, green, and gold colors. The terra-cotta tiles to spruce up a home. My step-dad's famous chorizo, potato, and onion breakfast tacos. Tequila.

Here are some items that are calling my name and asking me to go away with them on a little trip down south:

1. Turquoise detail
Kendra Scott Pendant Necklace, $88

2. Gold bangles with a splash of color
Cara Acessories Stone Bangles, $28

3. Margaritas!
Skinnygirl Margarita (premade, just add ice!)

4. Texture spray
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, $23

5. White, floaty dress
Vintage Eyelet Dress, delias, $35.50

May Day

I can't believe I am already looking at May in my little green planner- no, I have not switched over completely to a technologically advanced way of keeping my appointments. Thankfully, this month is shaping up to be a sunny one- it's misnomer "May Gray" be damned.

I was fortunate enough to spend the weekend with my kind of people (ok, so the extremely inebriated 18-21 year olds wearing nothing but a bikini and cowboy boots aren't exactly my people, but you get my drift) and listened to some amazing performances by Darius Rucker, Kenny, Carrie (could she be any more beautiful?!), and Rascal Flatts. Now, I'm back in go-mode and I am sincerely looking forward to a couple of opportunities I have this week. Wish me luck!

This calender, found on the always entertaining Mimi + Meg, is just what I need to ring in the month. Not only does it include the requisite Cinco de Mayo (Corona anyone?) and Mother's Day (I told you Mom, no surprises on here!) holidays, it also includes some unique days to celebrate. Mint Julep Day (May 30) and Pizza Party Day (May 15) are a couple of my faves. What are yours?
